First of all the seller should understand why people buy what they buy. He should know that consumers are and what they are guided by when making purchases.
Why people make purchases?
People buy because they «would like to buy» something and they can afford it. There is a number of various ways to satisfy this "desire".
The seller should know the client well. People are different therefore they are guided by various reasons purchasing this or that kind of the goods. The problem of the seller is to guess these motives and to operate according to them.
For example, a person comes to your shop to buy a drink. Probably, he would be satisfied with a  bottle of water. But he needs something that would amaze his friends, something that will become a symbol of a certain style of life. He can buy "Martini" because he saw in an advertising clip as this drink is drunk by «cool guys». A child can be attracted by a new kind of fruit soda water because it was tried by all his friends: now it is his turn and he wants to know the taste of this soda.
More often people take an exacting approach to satisfaction of the simplest inquiries. Your problem is to let them know that the goods offered by you correspond to their representations about their social status in the best way. For example, your clients can aspire to feel a part of certain social group.
Specify principal sorts of the goods or services offered at your place and make the list of probable motivations of your clients when making purchases.
